Industrial District Management Limited (IDML) has brought in the Industrial District Operation and Management Regulations 2083 to keep the industrial districts it runs for manufacturing. Vehicle repair centres, garages and workshops already operating there have five years to convert into manufacturing units or lose their lease agreements; other non-productive businesses have three years, with a concession on the entry fee. Businesses found unsuitable for an industrial district will not have their agreements renewed. General Manager Padam Oli said the aim is to use industrial land for production. According to IDML, 11 vehicle repair businesses operate in the Balaju Industrial District and two in Hetauda.
Separately, the Department of Industry has directed industries not to discharge untreated wastewater into rivers and streams, after complaints about pollution, notably around the Sirsiya River in the Birgunj-Pathlaiya corridor ahead of Tihar and Chhath. A joint team of government agencies will monitor compliance.
