Local level elections are expected in Falgun (mid-February to mid-March 2027), according to Nagarik News, though the date is not settled: Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Central Member Metmani Chaudhary said his party expects them in Asar (mid-June to mid-July 2027) instead. The Rastriya Swatantra Party has begun collecting candidate applications, while the Nepali Congress is focusing on internal management and organising its election bureau. The CPN-UML has told cadres to build local momentum without yet starting candidate selection, and the CPN has launched a nationwide awareness campaign to mobilise its base.
Amid these preparations, former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has criticised talk of toppling the government soon after the festivals, warning in a social media post that repeated government changes weaken the economy, drive young people abroad and expose the country to geopolitical risks. He urged parties to let an elected government complete its full term within the Constitution, and to vote it out at the next election if it fails.
