Prime Minister Balen Shah announced on Saturday, October 31, 2026, that the government will reform policies and ease taxes to develop Nepal's game development and IT sectors into globally competitive industries. He made the announcement on Facebook after meeting local game developers, and pointed to the Nepali-made games Ludo and Call Break, which he said have been downloaded nearly 200 million and more than 150 million times.
He said the tax system would be eased so companies can earn and reinvest income, strict rules on international earnings would be relaxed, and the aim is an environment in which 'global unicorn' companies, valued at more than $1 billion, can be built from Nepal. The government also plans to invest in Game Jams, startup events and hackathons, and to set up regular discussions between the IT sector, Nepal Rastra Bank and the Ministry of Finance. No timeline has been announced; the Prime Minister said the groundwork has begun.
