Lalji Prasad Gupta, a 69-year-old battery trader who had worked in Biratnagar for about 40 years, went missing on Friday, October 23. His body was found on Sunday morning, October 25, on the bank of the Kesaliya River in Barju Rural Municipality, Sunsari.
Sunsari police arrested three people on the night of Tuesday, October 27: Afroz Alam, 36, of Biratnagar-6, and two boys aged 13 and 16, who are accused of helping dispose of the body. Superintendent of Police Pushparaj Malla said on Wednesday that the preliminary investigation points to a dispute over the alleged theft of wiring from an electric water pump. Police say the investigation is continuing.
