The Medical Education Commission has added 418 seats at government health science institutions ahead of integrated entrance examinations running from October 31 to November 4, bringing the total across programmes to 9,691 for 77,359 applicants, according to The Kathmandu Post. The new places include 110 MBBS seats, among them the first 50 at the Shaheed Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences in Geta, Kailali, which its registrar says met the infrastructure, staffing and legal requirements.
Medical education campaigner Professor Dr Govinda KC wants the Geta approval and the seat increase at the Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences cancelled, saying the standards were not met, and has warned of a satyagraha if his demands go unmet after extending his deadline by two days on October 26. On October 28 a meeting at the Prime Minister's Office decided to review past agreements with groups that had protested over health and medical education and to settle those still unimplemented; no decision on KC's specific demands had been made public.
