Nepal currently occupies 35th place in the overall standings at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with two bronze medals, Annapurna Post reported. The women's kabaddi squad confirmed a podium place for the second straight edition after qualifying for the semifinals with a 34-25 victory over Sri Lanka, according to Deshsanchar. In athletics, long-distance runners Purna Lakshmi Neupane and Santoshi Shrestha finished 11th and 12th in the 5,000-metre final at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Onlinekhabar reported.
Meanwhile, persistent downpours in Nagoya have put the men's cricket team's quarterfinal match against Sri Lanka at risk, The Kathmandu Post reported. Tournament rules provide no reserve days and permit higher-ranked teams to advance if fixtures are abandoned, which would send ninth-ranked Sri Lanka through over 14th-ranked Nepal. Nepal head coach Stuart Law criticized the regulation as brutal for Associate teams, pointing out that Korogi Athletic Park lacks adequate ground covers and drainage after the rule knocked out Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
