A localised ceasefire brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump, with Pope Leo XIV's involvement, took effect in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian town of Oleshky on October 27 and was extended the same day across the Kherson region, with no breaches reported. Up to 2,000 people remain in the town, which has had no electricity, gas or water since 2023. Aid deliveries and an evacuation are planned for the end of the week, and the truce is due to last until November 1.
