Nepal Oil Corporation asks 58 LPG industries to prepare for mergers
The Nepal Oil Corporation has asked the country's 58 LPG industries to prepare action plans for mergers, saying it expects a more organised, consumer-friendly distribution system.
The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has said it is moving ahead with merging the country's Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industries, and has asked the operators to draw up action plans for it. The step concerns the 58 LPG industries now running under different names and brands.
According to reports from Onlinekhabar, Nagarik News and Annapurna Post, the corporation said it would continue its policy of merging LPG industries, in line with Point 32 of the policy and programme approved for the current fiscal year 2083/84.
On October 29, the corporation wrote to all LPG industries, asking them to encourage mergers, prepare action plans accordingly and move the process forward. Annapurna Post attributed the information to Vinitmani Upadhyay.
Annapurna Post also noted that consumers have run into trouble because one company's gas cylinder is not exchanged by another, and that the dealers who have to do the exchange charge an additional fee.
The NOC expects the move to make the sales and distribution of gas more organised, convenient and consumer-friendly. None of the reports says by when the mergers are to be completed.
