Xtreme Energy Drink Expands Dominance in Nepali Sports Sponsorship
Xtreme Energy Drink has become a dominant force in Nepali sports, sponsoring the majority of NPL franchises and launching nationwide fan zones to boost engagement.
Xtreme Energy Drink has solidified its position as a primary financial backer of Nepali sports, securing widespread branding across the third season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) and various other athletic disciplines. According to The Kathmandu Post, the brand now features on the jerseys of seven out of eight NPL franchises, as well as on the kits of nine prominent national cricketers and the country's inaugural franchise volleyball league.
While the financial specifics of these deals remain undisclosed, industry observers note that the brand's aggressive entry has filled a significant funding void left by the prohibition of alcohol-based sponsorships. Niroj Khatiwada, CEO of the Janakpur Bolts, told The Kathmandu Post that average title sponsorship values for NPL franchises have doubled since the second season, reaching approximately Rs20 million. Khatiwada suggested that Xtreme's market dominance provides franchises with a benchmark for negotiations, though he anticipates that the arrival of multinational brands will eventually diversify the sponsorship landscape.
Beyond team branding, Xtreme is actively integrating its presence into the fan experience. As reported by Neplays and Nepal Watch, the company has established ten 'fan zones' across nine cities, including Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Biratnagar. These venues, which offer free entry, feature large LED screens for live match broadcasts, musical performances, and interactive activities. The initiative aims to extend the reach of the NPL beyond the stadiums, creating a collective atmosphere for supporters nationwide.
To further incentivize individual performance, Xtreme has introduced a 'Silver Ball' award for the 'Xtreme Man of the Match' in NPL fixtures. According to the Annapurna Post, the initiative is intended to honor the skill and dedication of players, with Sher Malla becoming the first recipient during the opening match between the Sudurpaschim Royals and the Lumbini Lions.
Despite the influx of capital, the brand's rapid expansion has drawn scrutiny. Punam Singh, vice president of the Nepalese Marketing Association, told The Kathmandu Post that while sports sponsorships offer significant visibility, the brand must account for long-term risks, particularly regarding potential government regulations on energy drinks and health-related concerns. Soniya Rana, business head of Xtreme, dismissed these health concerns, asserting that the product meets quality standards. Meanwhile, competition remains present; while Xtreme has captured most of the NPL, Red Bull continues to maintain a sponsorship presence, including a three-year deal with the Everest Women’s Volleyball League, as noted by The Kathmandu Post.
