The Birgunj Customs Office surpassed its revenue collection target for the Nepali month of Ashoj, which ran from mid-September to mid-October. According to Chief Customs Administrator Krishna Prasad Mainali, the office collected Rs 26.73 billion, exceeding its monthly goal of Rs 26.46 billion by 1.02 percent. Officials attributed this performance to increased economic activity and consumer demand during the festive season. Major revenue contributors included fuel imports at Rs 2.29 billion, liquefied petroleum gas at Rs 1.8 billion, and bitumen at Rs 1.4 billion, alongside significant contributions from fruit imports.
Despite this monthly success, the customs office has not yet reached its cumulative revenue target for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Total collections for the three-month period reached Rs 69.13 billion, falling short of the cumulative goal of Rs 70.56 billion. As a key hub for trade, the office's performance remains a significant indicator of national import-related tax collection.
