The remote Limi Valley in Humla has been cut off since heavy snowfall on September 26 and 27 blocked the mountain pass linking it to the rest of the district. In its three settlements, Til, Halji and Jang, the snow damaged ripe barley, buckwheat, peas and radishes and spoiled the grass farmers were about to cut for winter fodder. Ward chairperson Paljor Tamang said 325 mountain cows stranded in the snow were rescued, but feeding them through the winter will be difficult. Residents also face shortages of firewood and drinking water as taps have frozen.
Subsidised grain from the Food Management and Trading Company Limited has not reached the valley for a year. The food allocated for it has reached Yalwang, the rural municipality's administrative centre, but snow on the road across the Nyalu Pass has halted transport, so it cannot reach the valley's 111 households. Supplies from Taklakot in China are also unavailable. The company's provincial office in Surkhet said it would look into the matter.
