Esewa launches 'Every Boundary Counts' campaign for red panda conservation
Digital payment provider Esewa will donate up to Rs 1 million to red panda habitat restoration based on boundaries scored during the 2026 Nepal Premier League.
Digital payment provider Esewa has announced a new initiative to support the conservation of the endangered red panda, linking the excitement of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2026 to environmental protection. Through its 'Every Boundary Counts' campaign, the company will donate funds based on the number of boundaries scored during the cricket tournament, according to reports from Artha Dabali, Annapurna Post, Neplays, and Lokpath.
Esewa, which serves as the official ticketing partner for the NPL, has entered into a tripartite agreement with the Red Panda Network and the Red Panda Network Nepal to execute the project. Under the terms of the campaign, the company will contribute Rs 2,000 for every six and Rs 1,000 for every four hit during the matches. The total contribution is capped at Rs 1 million, inclusive of taxes.
Conservation goals
The funds generated from the campaign are earmarked for the restoration of natural habitats and the creation of employment opportunities for local communities. The Red Panda is currently listed as an endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, making habitat protection critical for its survival.
According to the participating organizations, the project will focus on community forest areas in Ilam and Panchthar. A reforestation and conservation program is scheduled for June and July 2027. The initiative aims to restore approximately 10 hectares of degraded habitat and plant 10,000 native saplings. Furthermore, the project intends to create roughly 600 labor-days of paid employment for local residents, with a specific focus on prioritizing women for these roles.
Linking sports to sustainability
Ravi Shakya, Chief Strategy Officer at Esewa, stated that the campaign seeks to transform the enthusiasm of cricket fans into a positive force for biodiversity and local livelihoods. Representatives from the Red Panda Network, including Executive Director Ang Phuri Sherpa and President Dr. Shailendra Bahadur Thakali, expressed their support for the initiative, noting that the partnership provides a unique platform to highlight the importance of conservation and green job creation.
Esewa has committed to providing regular updates on the total funds collected throughout the NPL season via its official website and social media channels. The company stated that this effort aligns with its broader goal of integrating responsible business practices with environmental and social welfare.
