Global IME Bank begins construction of Rs 3 billion headquarters
Global IME Bank has begun work on a new headquarters at Uttar Dhoka, Kathmandu, which it estimates will cost Rs 3 billion and take three years to finish.
Global IME Bank Limited has begun work on a new corporate headquarters at Uttar Dhoka in Kathmandu. Bank Chair Chandra Prasad Dhakal laid the foundation stone and performed the ground-breaking puja on Friday, November 6, 2026, which fell on Dhanteras.
The bank estimates the cost at Rs 3 billion, covering both the structural work and the interior fit-out, and aims to finish within three years. Clickmandu and Karobar Daily report that Chief Executive Officer Surendra Raj Regmi said the bank's central-level departments currently work from separate locations and that the new building would bring them under one roof. The bank expects the move to make their work better organised and more efficient.
Size and design
Reports differ slightly on the building's size. Makalu Khabar, Clickmandu and Karobar Daily give a built-up area of about 145,000 square feet, and Makalu Khabar quotes Dhakal giving that figure at the ceremony. Bizmandu, which attributes its figure to the bank, puts the area at about 146,000 square feet and says the building will have 12 floors. The sources do not explain the gap.
Bizmandu also reported, citing Dhakal, that the latest engineering technology and environmental sustainability are high priorities in the design. Secant piling is to be used for ground stability and the safety of the surroundings, and the building is to have rainwater harvesting, a solar energy system and two levels of underground parking.
What the bank said
Dhakal said the headquarters could be the largest, and one of the best-equipped, head offices among commercial banks in Nepal, and he expressed confidence that it would become an iconic landmark in a prime location in the capital. He credited the bank's customers, shareholders, employees and well-wishers for making it possible.
Regmi said the bank had grown into one of the country's largest through the trust of about 5.9 million customers, and that the new building would be more modern and technology-friendly than the head offices of the commercial banks now operating in Nepal. According to Clickmandu, the bank said it would keep expanding quality, technology-friendly banking services alongside its physical infrastructure.
