Nepal Police have initiated a nationwide security operation to maintain order during the Tihar and Chhath festivals. Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle announced that 50,458 personnel have been mobilized to ensure public safety, manage traffic, and prevent criminal activities such as theft and the illegal sale of firecrackers. Authorities have increased surveillance at border crossings and entry points to Kathmandu, while utilizing drones, body-worn cameras, and CCTV systems to monitor crowded locations and transit hubs. The Cyber Bureau is also on standby to watch social media for digital fraud and misinformation.
In the Kathmandu Valley, 1,600 traffic personnel are managing the holiday travel surge, supported by 14 passenger assistance desks. Police are conducting vehicle inspections at major transit points to enforce safety regulations, including the two-driver requirement for long-distance routes and checks for speeding or intoxication. Officials are also coordinating with commerce authorities to prevent price gouging and have urged the public to report suspicious activity via the 100 toll-free number.
