Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said on Thursday, November 5, that the government is committed to establishing Nepal's national identity more firmly in the world. He was addressing a policy dialogue in Kathmandu, organized by the Institute of Foreign Affairs, at which a project report titled "Brand Nepal: National Assets, Global Narratives and Strategic Opportunities" was released. Khanal described Nepal's reputation as a strategic asset for its development aspirations and foreign policy, and said the country's identity is not limited to the Himalayas and Lumbini.
He set out three priorities: identifying, protecting and adding value to national assets; building a broader national identity through public diplomacy; and linking that identity to emerging opportunities such as hydropower, higher-value tourism and digital services. He called for stronger intellectual property protection, geographical indications and quality certification for traditional products. According to Nepal News, he said the Foreign Ministry would examine the report's findings.
